Sexual relationships at work and related risks

DOC. MUDR. RADIM UZEL, CSC.

Keynote Lecture - Saturday, September 24, 2016

Human behaviour is regulated mainly by the laws of nature, legislation and the so called “good morals“. Due to that man can misconduct in interpersonal relationships through acts “contra naturam“, “contra legem“ and “contra bonos mores“. While the first two criteria are more or less universal and applicable “here and now“, the good morals criterion often depends on individual norms that can vary in mutual communication. It is often an issue especially with regards to the variability of human sexual interactions. Frequent misunderstandings may occur because of the lack of open communication or different national or regional habits and customs. Moreover, a certain element of sexual violence often forms an appropriate part of the human ritual of becoming closer. The often implied violent behaviour does not necessarily have to contain any elements of grudge or hate, on the very contrary can escalate the desired sexual arousal of partners. It can also lead to false accusations caused by “misunderstandings“. The existence of Act No 46/2004 Coll., on non-discrimination at work covering also the sexual harassment makes us think about the effectiveness of this norm in our country. Sexual harassment is a form of the so called mobbing – the psychological abuse. It assumes diverse shapes and forms. The presentation discusses the ways of assessing the prevention of misunderstanding in intimate relationships. People often spend much more time at work than at home, which is why the relationships at work are extremely important. They should be based on voluntariness, exclusion of physical and mental damage, and prevention of public outrage.
