MUDr. Ivo Marek, PhD.

Graduated in dentistry at the Faculty of Medicine, Palacky University in Olomouc in 1990. He completed his three years training programme in orthodontics in 1999 and finished postgraduate study of orthodontics at the Orthodontic Department of Dental School, Palacky University in Olomouc in 2007, with PhD degree. His doctoral thesis "Apical Root Resorption during the Orthodontic Treatment“ was awarded the 2007 best professional thesis in stomatology. Dr. Marek has kept his Private Dental Clinic in Breclav which focuses on interdisciplinary dental care – above all on the collaboration of orthodontists with periodontists and implantologists. Together with doc. Starosta they achieved success in the clinical practice as well. Their team was the first in Czech Republic which has carried out an autotransplantation of a premolar into the incisor position (2003), an utilisation of monocortical anchorage miniimplants (2002), a vertical bone formation by extrusion movement (2003), an implant movement by fix appliance (2012), etc.

Dr. Marek works as an associate professor at the Orthodontic Department of Dental School, Palacky University in Prague and as a part time teacher at the Orthodontic Department at the Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague. He has published 30 articles and has given over 150 lectures in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Dr. Marek is a vice president of the Czech Orthodontic Society, member of the European Orthodontic Society, the American Orthodontic Society and the World Orthodontic Society. In 2007 he was appointed a honorary member of the Implantology Club of Czech Republic for the partnership between the fields of orthodontics and implantology. Furthermore, he is a member of the editorial board of the journal Ortodoncie (Orthodontics) and reviewer of Journal Ortodoncie and Angle Orthodontics. He is a member of the accreditation committee of the Ministry of Healthcare, a representative of the Czech Orthodontic Society in EFOSA and an AAO Ambassador.
