CBCT and Virtual Surgery First for Orthognathic Surgery Treatment

Prof.Dr. Axel Bumann, DDS, PhD.

Keynote Lecture - Friday, October 16, 2015

“Surgery First” is becoming increasingly popular in orthognathic surgery. The combination of the basic “Surgery First” concept with the latest virtual treatment planning options is even more advantageous. Various concepts of matching DICOM data with STL data from scanned models will be presented. Digital models can be imported with and w/o setups of the teeth. The import of STL models after performing a setup of the teeth allows a specific planning procedure and has several advantages when compared to traditional methods. In addition, the combination of data from jaw movement registrations with segmented DICOM data, which allows realistic autorotation of the lower jaw in virtual treatment planning, will be introduced. Based on the clinical experience of more than 8 years with “Virtual Surgery First” significantly shortened treatment times and treatment outcomes (PAR index) will be presented.
