This presentation provides an overview about muscular function within the stomatognatic system, followed by an analysis of its impact upon orthodontic treatment. The lecture is addressing muscular (dyys)function, habits, oronasal function, treatment timing and treatment options. Clinical samples will deepen the understanding of the several existing disorders. Myofunctional therapy (OMT) serves as an specialized add-on along with orthodontic treatment of different dysgnatia, which are caused or influenced by myofunctional disorders. However, its effectiveness is very much depending upon the correct indication and timing during orthodontic therapy. Patient samples will be used to provide insight about the treatment possibilities and limitations. Suggestions for clinical proceeding are extracted and provided.
