Dear Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would like to cordially invite you to the XXI Congress of the Czech Orthodontic Society that will be held in Brno on September 17-19. The principal topic of the congress is Orthodontics and Function – Another Point of View. Orthodontic anomalies and their managementare closely linked to the function of stomatognathic system, including the temporomandibular joint. We can look forward to an interesting congress course led by Dr. Elizabeth Menzelfrom Germany who has dedicated herself to this topic and is a sought-after and globally respected expert and lecturer.The interrelations of the stomatognathic system and the temporomandibular joint and the possibilities to influence them by physiotherapy will be covered by the lecture given by physiotherapists.

Another key topic of the congress is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), which is becoming widely known among the general public as well as our patients. Leading lecturers will introduce us to interdisciplinary aspects of this syndrome. In the lecture given by professor Ludkawe will learn about connections between the obstructive sleep apneaand cardiovascular diseases. There will be a lecture delivered by an ENT specialist. The OSA from the point of view of a maxillofacial surgeon will be explored in a few lectures by professor Foltán and other renowned maxillofacial surgeons. The orthodontic treatment of patients with OSA will be addressed by lectures delivered by Dr. Celli from Italy and other speakers.

Nowadays, lectures on aligners treatment are a must atany orthodontic congress.This section will also abound in excellent foreign speakers. The lecture by Dr. Windsheimer from Germany will be dedicated to the treatment with aligners in surgical patients. The application of Invisalign in growing patients will be presented by Dr. Meuli from Italy.

An interesting programme will also be waiting fororthodontic assistants and dental technicians. They can look forward to lectures onobstructive sleep apnea, physiotherapy of temporomandibular joint, rules of and mistakes made in taking radiographs, indirect bonding, use of T-scan.Moreover, a detailed practical lecture is planned for dental technicians,dedicated to production of splints to treat patients with occlusion and temporomandibular joint disorders and production of Haas Hyrax appliances.

The congress will take place at the Hotel International, which has been successfully renovated and now avails of modern conference facilities and a wellness centre, while preserving its unique architecture and Brussels design. It is located in the centre of Brno and in the vicinity of Špilberk castle, which offers an opportunity to walk around and explore the heritage sites of Brno. You might be attracted to take a walk in the park near Špilberk, where the trees in the month of September will be full of beautiful colours of Indian summer and early autumn.
