Peter Anthony Mossey

Professor of Craniofacial Development and Consultant in Orthodontics, University of Dundee Dental School. Currently Associate Dean for Internationalisation at the University of Dundee Dental School. Prolific publisher in this field with 48 peer reviewed publications in the last 5 years, and in the same period supervised 8 doctorate students and 8 Masters projects, all of them on cleft lip / palate or craniofacial anomalies. For the last 2 decades, prof. Mossey has been leading local, national, European and global research in the field of craniofacial anomalies and cleft lip and palate which includes the following. Convenor of research group in Cleft Care Scotland and Leader for the Craniofacial Anomalies theme in the WHO Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Birth Defects initiative arising from the recommendations of the 63rd World Health Assembly in May 2010. Chaired the Craniofacial Anomalies Group of the IADR Global Oral Health Inequalities Research Agenda (GOHIRN) and was appointed honorary secretary of the IADR Global Oral Health Inequalities Research Network in August 2012. Chair of the international Task Force on epidemiology, etiology and prevention of cleft lip and palate in June 2013. Developed and research projects and strategies on treatment, etiology and prevention of cleft lip and palate, particularly in developing countries & in 2015 Prof. Mossey was awarded Arnold Huddart Medal by the Craniofacial Society of Great Britain & Ireland. Researchgrant funding in the past includes grants from the Global Challenges Research Fund, British Council, The Wellcome Trust, Sport Aiding Medical Research for Kids (SPARKS), EU Framework 5, European Science Foundation (ESF-EMRC) and National Institutes of Health (NIH).
