45 years in orthodontics has made me humble. There is no doubt that much has changed and the technical advances to the benefits of patients and profession are considerable. However, it cannot be denied that commercialization of orthodontics has changed the field completely. Unproven claims of effectiveness of new devices or treatment options and suggested long-term benefits overshadow the science and practice of orthodontics. This knowledge bypass is a rather serious issue. Is there light at the end of the tunnel?
