How to perform successfully tooth transplantation? Key factors for donor selection, surgery and follow-up.

Tooth transplantation, especially in growing patients, is an attractive alternative, for treating dental agenesis, upper incisor avulsions and tooth impactions. Successful transplants not only provide a life-long tooth replacement but can also preserve the alveolar bone and promote bone regeneration in deficient alveolar processes. Tooth transplantation is a technique sensitive procedure and requires careful diagnosis and case selection, a good understanding of relevant tooth transplantation biological principles and careful execution of the optimal surgical and follow-up protocols. The protocol for autotransplantation of developing teeth introduced at the University in Oslo in the early 60’s has been successfully implemented in Poland for the last 19 years.
