Prof. MUDr. Milan Kamínek, DrSc., F.D.S.R.C.S.

Prof. MUDr. Milan Kamínek, DrSc. graduated in dentistry from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of Palacký University in Olomouc in 1961. He became an assistant in the Department of Orthodontics of the Dental Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital in Olomouc where he finished his specialised training in 1971, he defended his dissertation thesis in 1976, habilitation thesis in 1978 and PhD thesis in 1988. In 1989 he was awarded the title of professor.

He went to Denmark for a clerkship, namely at the Department of Orthodontics in Copenhagen and Aarhus in 1968-1969. After his return to Olomouc in 1969, he was the first to introduce the treatment with fixed multiband appliances in the Warsaw Pact countries. Since that time many orthodontists not only from the Czech and Slovak Republics, but also from the GDR, Hungary and Poland have come to the Department of Orthodontics in Olomouc to learn the fixed orthodontic appliance technique. The German translation of his book on fixed orthodontic appliances published in 1980 by J. A. Barth in Leipzig was the first publication on fixed orthodontic appliances and modern principles of treatment planning in German speaking countries.

Dr. Kamínek was the President of the European Orthodontic Society in 2002-3, the President of the EOS Congress in Prague in 2003, a member of the EOS Council in 1997-2007, a member of the EFOSA Council in 2007-2011. He is a Committee member of the Czech Orthodontic Society, the chairman of the Specialty Council for orthodontics, the chairman of the Accreditation Commission for orthodontics of the Ministry of Health CR and a member of the World Federation of Orthodontists. In 1989 Dr. Kamínek was awarded the honorary membership of the Society for Orthopedic Stomatology of GDR, in 1993 he became a corresponding member of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kieferorthopädie and in 2000 an honorary member of the Polish Orthodontic Society. He is an author or co-author of 8 publications and university textbooks, 87 articles published in peer reviewed specialised journals and he gave 210 lectures on the occasion of scientific congresses and symposia. He is a member of 2 editorial boards of scientific journals.
