The lecture focuses on the development of orthodontics at the Dental Clinic in Olomouc and on factors that influenced the orthodontics in Olomouc. When the university in Olomouc was reopened and the dentistry study programme launched at the Faculty of Medicine in 1951, the environment in which the Dental Clinic and the Department of Orthodontics started to operate were truly modest. Some of the chiefs of the clinic were orthodontists. A turning point in its development was the year 1961 when the Department of Orthodontics moved into larger premises, namely to its current address in Palackého street 12. The lecture shall present changes in the used methods of treatment, diagnostic procedures, and scientific and research activities of the Department of Orthodontics in Olomouc.
