Prof. Junji Sugawara, DDS, DDSc.

Prof. Junji Sugawara graduated in 1973 from Tohoku University in Japan, where he worked for another 30 years. He is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Orthodontics at the Dental Faculty of the University of Connecticut (USA) and Professor at the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery at Tohoku University in Sendai (Japan). Currently he also runs a private orthodontic clinic Skeletal Anchorage System (SAS) Orthodontic Centre in Sendai focused on the treatment of skeletal defects. Among experts Dr. Sugawara is known as a pioneer and main promoter of orthodontic-surgical procedure Surgery First and inventor of the skeletal anchorage system SAS, based on the principle of osteosynthesis miniplates. Dr. Sugawara presented these topics at prestigious congresses not only in Asia but also the United States, Europe, South America and Australia. He is regularly invited to the Congress of the American Orthodontic Society. The quality of the presentations is demonstrated by the fact that he was assessed as the best speaker from Central and East Asia at the 6th International Orthodontic Congress (WFO) meeting in Paris. He is the winner Helen E. Dewel Research Award (American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics). Since 2004 is an active member of the Edward H. Angle Society and a member of the American Orthodontic Society, World Orthodontic Society, the Japanese Orthodontic Society and the International Association of Dental Research.
