ORTODONTIC SET-UP AND WAX-UP
Keynote Lecture - section for orthodontic technicians - Thursday, September 20, 2012
Diagnostic SET-UP is the technique which makes it possible to test
an orthodontic treatment objectives. It is especially used when the
treatment plan is not unambiguous, when there exist more solutions.
Model casts are mounted in articulators and copy the occlusion of
a patient. Individual teeth are then taken off and rearranged in order
both the dentist and the patient could see the result of the treatment
method used. This technique is used in the planning of orthodontic as
well as prosthetic treatment.
To test the effect of the adjusted dental crown shape we use WAX-UP
technique – a dental crown (on the model or in the patient´s mouth)
is restored with wax. Both techniques will be ? rst discussed and then
practice training will be performed on the set of training casts.
