Impaction of Upper Permanent Canine - Questions and Answers

Doc. MUDr. Pavlína Černochová, Ph.D.

Keynote Lecture - Friday, October 5, 2018

The impaction of the upper permanent canine belongs to anomalies that require careful diagnosis and treatment planning. CBCT, unlike other radiological methods, makes it possible to accurately assess the position and morphology of impacted canine. Based on this examination, it is possible to plan an appropriate treatment method and, in the case of complications, to carry out a review. The morphology and condition of the surrounding bone and adjacent teeth can also be evaluated by CBCT examination. In connection with this, other questions arise. Why is there a resorption of the roots of adjacent teeth at the point of contact with the crown of the impacted canine? Is this resorption likely to predict? What is the extent of apical resorption after orthodontic treatment of impacted canines? What is the condition of the periodontium of neighboring teeth and the impacted canine? What is the success of orthodontic treatment of impacted canines and what factors affect it? The aim of the lecture is to provide answers to these questions through the analysis of clinical experience and scientific evidence from the literature. The presented issue is solved within project support MUNI / A / 1008/2017 and GAČR GB 14-37368G.
