Middle incisor retention – the only way to a stable aesthetic result
Keynote Lecture - Friday, October 5, 2018
Middle incisor retention is a rare but severe kind of tooth retention. Among the most common causes there are the presence of a supernumerary tooth – which prevents the incisor from erupting; or an injury at an early age, which can lead to vestibular root angulation disabling tooth eruption. The most determining factors in the treatment protocol are the age of the patient, the degree of retention and the level of damage of the tooth. The authors present the treatment protocol based on tooth traction by close eruption and by orthodontic force focused on the top of the alveolar ridge. As a result the gingiva formed around the tooth gets attached which has a crucial impact on the aesthetics and the state of periodontium in the future.
