KEY FACTORS AND EXTENDED POSSIBILITIES FOR SUCCESSFUL TOOTH TRANSPLANTATION

Ewa M. Czochrowska, D.D.S., Dr. Odont.

Keynote Lecture - Saturday, September 22, 2012

The protocol for autotransplantation of developing teeth was successfully applied at the University in Oslo for the last 40 years to replace missing teeth in growing patients. It was also successfully adopted in Poland with comparable outcome in the last decade. The detailed description of the Oslo protocol for tooth transplantation that includes indications, surgical technique and follow-up will be presented during the lecture illustrated by different clinical applications. The predictability of this method will be discussed based on results of own studies. Extended possibilities for application of this treatment modality, that include trans-alveolar transplantation used to surgically upright ectopically positioned teeth, autotransplantation of wisdom teeth and novel approaches will be shown in the second part of the lecture. The critical aspects, which may contribute to sub-optimal outcome in the anterior maxilla, will be highlighted. Re-establishment of the normal alveolar process after transplantation will be discussed in the last part of the presentation.
