Prof. Sabine Ruf, Ph.D.

Prof. Ruf is at present Chair, and Professor and Head of the Department of Orthodontics, Justus-Liebig-University of Giessen, Germany.

She received her dental training from Giessen University 1986-1991. She also received her orthodontic training and her Ph.D. from the same university. Prof. Ruf received various national and international research awards including the W.J.B. Houston Research Award of the European Orthodontic Society and the S.I.D.O. World Award of the Italian Orthodontic Society. From 2002 – 2005 she was Chair, and Professor and Head of the Department of Orthodontics, University of Bern, Switzerland before returning to Germany.

Prof. Ruf has done extensive research in the area of functional appliance treatment and its effects on TMJ function giving special emphasis to the Herbst appliance. She has been an author or co-author of the book „The Herbst appliance“ and more than sixty scientific and clinical articles in major journals. She is on the editorial board of four different national and international orthodontic journals and is an active member of various organizations, including the Angle Society of Europe, the European Orthodontic Society and the German Orthodontic Society.
